@eris you're right, it is reductive and I apologize for that, but my point does stand that it's a false equivalence. and I do think that disabled people shouldn't have to "stay home" just because their presence is uncomfortable to others. especially if a movie is made about them specifically and their struggle, they have every right to be there at the award show. it was made abundantly clear to everyone in attendance that he has the condition that makes you uncontrollably say obscene and beyond-the-pale things, like intrusive thoughts that forcibly verbalize themselves.
