@georgia monkey paw curls, and they move to iOS (this happened to a lot of the original android custom rom scene)

@mischievoustomato that would be so cursed. before I get my hopes off the jolla phones need to be available in the US and all of sailfish needs to be free software even their android emulator or abstraction layer or VM or whatever it is that let's sailfish 5 support android apps

Is September the kill date? I hate the way this world is going. I'm keeping my phone LineageOS and Gapps free (not even microG) forever at this point. Fuck all this surveillance state bullshit.

@djsumdog @georgia yeah google PR walked it back from total lockdown to "gun waiting period" lockdown which was probably just enough of a change to cripple the legal objections

@georgia motorola g54. Its hands down the absolute worst phone Ive ever had, and I think having it causes cortisol spikes and depression on me.

@djsumdog all Qualcomm phones phone home to Qualcomm. if I can't hack it android-free I'll do the same thing as you and have pure lineage

@georgia im no longer big on 3rd party roms given all the hoops needed to get apps to work normally. I dont need much, thats why I wanna get an iphone next. Never had one, seems like itd be a good time to have one.

@icedquinn @djsumdog I hated google when everyone liked google and thought they were cool. I said "a company that is so rich yet is liked so much must be even more evil than we can imagine"

@mischievoustomato if your ROM is officially supported shit tends to just werk in my experience

@georgia i meant apps like banking apps, stuff like that. Not even whatsapp works with custom roms unless you do a lot of things

@georgia and the only reason I cared about custom roms is getting up to date android. Now that I dont feel excited at all about android, I no longer care about that either

@georgia @djsumdog to be fair the nicee people retired and left the harvard retards in charge.

"20% time" was retired by new management

@mischievoustomato oh right yeah. banking apps used to work for me with the right magisk patches but now they dont -_-. I'm not bothered though because etsy and grubhub and venmo all still work. although since I'm moving to sailfish I won't be able to use any of those...

@georgia slowly stuff stops working. I would be ok with magisk stuff but now it requires getting stuff like keybox.xml files that eventually are deprecated and require finding new ones. Thats no way to live.

@georgia @djsumdog there's a lot of internal botched attempts at cybernetic management there. as in they have a population division which runs experiments on employees. but they don't seem to be experiments to maintain cohesion. their experiments to figure out how to make teams specifically good don't work. it's more like CIA or behavioral psychologists fucking around on highly credential zoomers: the corporation.

somehow costco of all places is one of the few companies that actually has "be decent to employees, hire internally, disregard ivy league extraction meta" as a play that has survived corporate succession.

@georgia I got a bit excited over new motorola phones with snapdragon chips (fuck powervr to hell and back), but upgrades are important still (security is nice and well, maybe android gets exciting again), but like if I could get a new phone of the tier I want, I could get a coupld of gens older iPhone and most likely have a better experience

@mischievoustomato yeah I expect those three apps I just mentioned all will stop working. I'm moving in the opposite direction as you though by going to sailfish

@mischievoustomato macos and iOS have a lot of synchronization too if youre interested in a mac

@georgia lol i know. hell i know more about macs than the dudes that have had them for several years at uni wawa_sob . I'm still flaky on moving to macOS someday, as I find linux exciting, but the things I do would probably be fine with macOS + linux VM, and I'd have considerably less annoyances that make me waste time (i use a rather complex source based distro lol...)

@mischievoustomato see I dont base my computing around exciting, I base it around control, privacy, and fun

@georgia for me i also like control and fun, but the problem is that many things also bring more annoyance and pain compared to the fun. I dont care much about privacy. As long as individual people (esp in my circle) dont know details I dont want them to know, I'm happy.

@mischievoustomato for me privacy is control and control is privacy. since I love control, I love privacy, but where they contradict (like all my Firefox addons creating a unique fingerprint) I choose control

@icedquinn @djsumdog @georgia costo is possibly the only major corporation that has kept up its end of the social contract in the American consumerist system.

@yakmacker @djsumdog @georgia there are a few but you don't interact with them. Barry-Wehmiller comes up in Sineck's books. One other came up in a book from an ex-CIA guy. (the CIA itself, ironically, resorts to a lot of internal pro-social programming because they literally can't use the harvard method.)

the part most people scuff is that it has to project the values beyond the founder and sample the next round of management from within the projection. this is where most "good" companies die. gabe croaks in the boating accident and the successor ends up being a harvardite.

@yakmacker @djsumdog @georgia wehmiller in specific had an adjustment period because they hired out for a new CEO but it was put in to the bylaws and enforced by the board that he *couldn't* treat employees as financial securities.

it IS possible.

@icedquinn @djsumdog @georgia I am probably going to work on my phone tonight. It's given me a lot of anxiety every single day for the past year if I get grabbed on the streets or pulled over. I know a lot of people who get their devices taken never to be returned.

Going to go with Graphene and I'll report how it goes🤞
