@p @RehnSturm256 @boob @meowski @moth @nik wow p you've had bad takes but this is your worst.
the reason we let kids vote is cause we were sending them to their deaths in nam. the voting age was 21 quite recently.
driving? honestly i do think the age should be increased a little. kids are at a really high risk of accidents and driving isn't quite the right of passage it used to be anyway.
but driving is to take you from one place to another. and voting is exercising a basic liberty. automobiles and the vote have important societal functions.
but their cigarettes? there is literally nothing good about cigarettes. they are a net detriment on the health and wealth of the self and the nation and exist purely for "fun".
fewer people smoking is a good thing. fewer kids smoking is an excellent thing.
frankly it's stupid and only a result of temperance bullshit combined with big tobacco that for generations kids could smoke before they could drink.
it's more than danger too. nicotine is a highly addictive substance, moreso than most recreational drugs, yet we criminalize them.
kids and their smooth prefrontal cortexes can make a "choice" to try nicotine. sure.
but it soon ceases to become a free choice.
the sooner nicotine smoking is relegated to the annals of history, the better.
