it's always a little odd to me when someone is like "anarchism is for utopian babies but i have faith that social democracy can solve all our big problems." i understand that anarchists are supposed to be stupid kids and all but it's funny how people will go "people can never self-organize to solve problems. however they *can* self-organize to solve problems if we give some of them a gun and the ability to force their authority on others." i honestly feel like the ideologies that rely on Trusting The Guys In Charge are way more optimistic and faith-based. how does it get any easier to organize to solve problems when certain individuals are granted power that can be used to perpetuate problems for their own benefit

hit the nail on the head and a huge reason why I both:
1) reject social democracy
2) have a Lot of caveats to my more ML-adjacent inclinations

@georgia @jake2 it's an improvement over what we have in amerikkka but I think we can and should strive for better (not to mention a lot of "social democratic" states still rely on imperialism and plunder of the global south for their niceties to be feasible)

@Air_Quotes_Comedian @jake2 @patchuun I mean they get more of their wealth from oil (exploiting the earth) than from exploitation of the global south but its a fair point

@georgia @patchuun there is no such thing as an unbiased measure

@georgia @patchuun but also like. it absolutely is biased. the World Happiness Index has been substantially critiqued in its methodology

@jake2 @georgia @patchuun Funny you should mention them because I was thinking of them, De Beers (the multinational British diamond concern), big AG, Nestle... and on and on.

We get a life slightly more than dirt floor and mud for dinner while the people half a world away toil for our comfort with blood, deprivation and life itself.

Greed requires a difference engine.

@georgia @jake2 @patchuun its pretty easy for me to imagine someone having a “happy” [and/or comfortable] life and being bored or miserable, and someone saying their life is painful (because it does hurt) yet feeling truly alive and happy to exist

@georgia @jake2 @patchuun

They also plunder their own indigenous people and land, and marginalize immigrants, and have growing fascist movements happening.

All states serve the god of this world: capital. Superficial relative differences are nothing compared to the reality of the root causes.
