i'm glad reporters have finally caught up to the issue of child exploitation and rape on pornhub, it's only something feminists have talked about for years.

@Mr_NutterButter it's been a problem for years, and they have been extremely resistant to taking down content without litigious threats. only recently did credit card companies cut ties though.

@promethea this is exactly what i'm talking about, this reversal so common of libertines. caring about abused children makes me a good person.

@pernia @promethea well certainly not with him. pointing out child abuse is child abuse now, apparently.

@pernia the article is meant to highlight previously unheard accounts, which is what i take from it. NYT being a liberal rag, of course they will offer no solutions to systemic problems.

@Moon @pernia right, it offered very specific remedies which will purportedly be taken addressing pornhub in particular, but not the overarching issue.

@pernia @Moon he didn't say to kill it. he said stop allowing downloads and require the identities of content uploaders.

@promethea
you're clearly not familiar with my positions if you think child porn is the only porn i take issue with.

@Moon @pernia what's wild is porn has a greater racism and sexism problem than any other form of media yet it's exempt from criticism.

@pernia @Moon pornhub has historically NOT complied when people said "hey that's a video of my rape please remove it".

@pernia @promethea i hardly talk about it and i've defended users from vexatious accusations of pedophilia. i tried to calm the pedophilia hysteria on dke.
literally this person sees i posted about loli and then this article comes out and i talk about it so now i'm obsessed.
children aren't even my primary concern, there is far more material on pornhub featuring exploitation of poor and disabled adults. i just don't talk about that because i'll be called "terf and swerf" even though i think trans women and prostituted women should be included in feminism.

@pernia @promethea i can't stand liberalism because it's focused on the individual at the expense of class consciousness, and i can't stand progressives cause they're a fuckin joke.

@pernia @promethea modern progressivism is identity politics combined with whiggish historiography.

@promethea @pernia i mean i care about liberty, in the freedom from government and other forces sense, and i think liberty is an inherent right like a classical liberal. but i disdain the sort of identity politics that progressives champion.

@pernia @promethea the problem in your scenario is government. i like anarcho-syndicalism.

@pernia @promethea "have nothing in common" that's not true at all. class separates people more than nationality.

@pernia @promethea "india-pakistan" you know hindi and urdu are the same ethnic group speaking the same language right.
anyway when you talk about division, those were not cases of the workers leading the country to war. almost all wars in history have been top-down.

@pernia @promethea syndicates exist to protect workers in absence of a central state. anarchy doesn't mean no organization whatsoever, it's just organization and hierarchies within them would be voluntary. you aren't born into rule.

@pernia @promethea asking people who they hate more is not a good metric for determining how much they have in common.

@promethea @pernia there needs to be a radical cultural change before it becomes tenable. even then people would probably have to be somewhat sparsely populated wild west style.

@pernia @promethea tanks require a specialized mode of production and density of resources that likely wouldn't exist in such an anarchic society.

@orekix @pernia @promethea anarchism is definitely half baked and i admit my own quixoticism, the latter part about a state being necessary that anarchists don't want to call a state is true also. the difference imo is such an association would be more voluntary, a true consent of the governed.

@orekix @pernia @promethea i don't envision a peaceful transition or coercion to collectivism, but rather a calamity where people band together by necessity in small groups and form alliances. small city states of sorts, but interconnected with technology (which probably wouldn't be on par with technology in a centralized industrial society but would suffice)

@orekix @pernia @promethea if a society becomes totally preindustrialized without seizure of private property (or even after, just a new landed aristocratic class will be created) a sort of fuedalism or fiefdom will likely result, yes. that's why i put my hopes that technology can be used for good, to connect the erstwhile disparate and foster good will in a decentralized manner. it's naive perhaps, but i think a failure to realize our interconnectedness is responsible for much of humanities woes.
