@sathariel @meowski @sampler @unmind I mean the question is are you fully enlightened if you still reincarnate? I think in theory yes but from looking at the dalai lama, no. maybe zen is better than vajrayana though idk

@sathariel @meowski @sampler @unmind zen buddhism has a different approach to theravada or hindu yoga because they aim to reincarnate and while zen buddhism involves loss of ego they regain their ego for the benefit of all beings. is my understanding at least. zen sees no difference between samsara and nibbana and thus prefers samsara because while embodied you can help others discover their buddhahood.

@sathariel @meowski @sampler its debatable but I'd say where there is nibbana there must be dhyana

@unmind evil is just part of Gods lila yes, and in that regard is created by God along with maya. but God is perfectly good and upholds dharma and is averse to adharma. and all things proceed from God and cannot occur without Gods will. and yet God gives us free will which is where evil comes from...

@sathariel @meowski @sampler that isnt dhyana. read patanjalis yoga sutras if youre curious about traditional meditation perhaps

@sampler @meowski @sathariel yes one can control the senses by concentrating the mind deeply, but an accomplished yogi also learns to control the senses by controlling prana

@sathariel @meowski without sensory distractions one can concentrate the mind and eventually becomes aware of pure consciousness

@sathariel @meowski when I say sense control I mean control of the sense faculties through yoga. a yogi can withdraw the senses like a tortoise its limbs

@meowski @sathariel lots of cultures and religions have found fasting and other forms of asceticism to be purifying but only sense control can permanently eliminate desire for the sense objects

@unmind Brahman transcends good and evil but this isnt in like a "neither good nor evil and both good and evil" kinda way, its deeper than that. part of calling Brahman "sat" is not just calling it existence or truth, its calling it good, with the assertion that only goodness truly exists and evil is illusory.

@technolyze @sathariel I'm not a christian but I think jesus was one of many avataras sent and to be sent down to Earth to promote righteousness. He died for three reasons imo.
1. so he could be resurrected, showing the triumph of God over natural forces like the burning bush, and showing believers that they too could conquer death (through bhakti yoga)
2. to amplify his message of universal love by dying for his friends
3. because it was Gods will to start a religion that promotes the bhava of God as savior / suffering servant, creating christianity which would lead many people to dharmic conduct and eventually to liberation

@technolyze @sathariel I dont believe anyone needs an intercessor actually I think everyone can have a personal relationship with God on their own
